DBS Sports Personality of the Year Award 2012
It was with the upmost pleasure that on Friday 1st June 2012 we held the inaugural DBS Sports Personality of the Year Awards at The Address Hotel, Dubai Marina. The event was truly a fabulous evening of celebration and recognition. It enabled the school’s community to come together and show appreciation for the efforts and successes of close to 200 students of the school, who had represented DBS in a variety of sporting spectrums.
All students who had represented the school in competitive sport over the course of the academic year were awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold representative badge for their commitment to sport. In addition, the coach of each team selected 3 nominations, and an eventual winner, for their teams MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the season. We also recognized The Team of the Year, which undoubtedly went to the U13 Boys Football team for their outstanding achievements throughout the season, beating all comers and being the best British team in the Middle East.
Special Achievement Awards went to Brydie McDonald and Georgia Wilkins for representing Dubai at Netball, to Suleyman Sadikhov for representing Dubai in Basketball, and to Chris Allan for competing in the FINA World Cup and making 8 National times in Swimming.
The most prestigious awards of the evening went to two students who, over the course of this academic year, have continued to show the charachteristics that are befitting to such a title. They are both extremely talented, dedicated and demonstrate leadership qualities beyond their years, acting as role models to other students in the school. Our winners were:
DBS Male Sports Personality of the Year Award DBS Female Sports Personality of the Year Award
Alexei Watson Tahia Marshall
I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the staff, students and parents for their continued support throughout the season and for help making the evening such a great success.
We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did, and look forward to celebrating even more success next year.
Regards,
Mick Wright
Director of Sport and Activities.
